2 HD Dishes, problem moving receiver from one Dish to another

by Kevin
(TX)

We have 2 Direct TV dishes, one on the house, one on the garage. The house has 4 receivers (1HD DVR, 1 HD, 2 SD).

The garage has 1 Standard Direct TV receiver.

We had Direct TV come out an upgrade the garage dish to a HD compatible dish, but at the time, we only had a Standard TV and Standard receiver.

We had a new HD TV ordered for the garage, when the TV came, our plan was to swap the HD receiver and the SD receiver between the house and the garage.

When we moved the receivers, neither would work in their new locations (searching for satellite - 771 is the message we see, never gets beyond 0% of the process), we switch them back and they both work.

Are the receivers tried to their respective antenna?

Is there a way I can get these receivers to link up with their new dishes without Direct TV's help?

Direct TV is charging me to come out and swap the 2 receivers - seems I should be able to move receivers around from room to room without a problem.

Since both receivers work fine until I move them, I'm convinced the Direct TV rep will just be programming each unit to it's new dish, is that correct?

We have the service plan, Direct TV says moving receivers to a different room is not covered under the service plan, even though all rooms (drops) are covered, all receivers are covered and both dishes are covered.

Any help would be appreciated.
