Ads appear on my tv from direct tv after i surf the net or write mail

I have my tv and computer in the same room. Everytime i either type e-mail or discuss matters with friend on e-mail. When i surf, I start getting ads thru my direct tv system about the conversation or e-mail i sent. I never signed up or opt-in to such an action what's going on here? The ads come out of the networks icon in the lower right corner of my tv set. an cover the entire bottom of the screen while the program I am watching is on - not during commercial breaks.
