I am so furious with the way I have been treated by Direct TV. DON'T SIGN UP FOR THIS SERVICE. YOU WILL REGRET IT.

EVEN THOUGH THEY ADVERTISE GREAT DEALS, RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!

Direct TV has Unfair Business Practices

We had to cancel our service after 1 year due to a move to a new house. Unfortunately, Direct TV could not find a suitable location for the new dish, and could not continue to provide us service.

However, they are still insisting on charging us a cancellation fee due to the contract (plus we had to pay for the DVR last year).

Now I'm writing emails and trying to talk to someone who knows something and have not found anyone that has been helpful.

I'm considering legal action (although that would probably not be worth the price either). In my opinion, they have horrible customer service.

You cannot easily reach them or get answers. They only just repeat the same line over and over. There needs to be some consumer protection laws to cover this.

The Direct TV installer can also be scary - during they installed the dish in my old house, the installer almost drilled into a bunch of electrical wires... Just missed them by less than half an inch. Scary.

Lesson learned - don't ever expect to get out of the service contract with them even if you have a very good reason. They are not a reasonable company - they make the cable and phone companies look great when it comes to customer service.

anyone else having repeated Direct TV receiver problems?

Our Direct TV receiver has been freezing in the on and off position, it does not respond to the remote or the front panel buttons.

The unit has to be unplugged and reset half the time to make it turn off or on. The menu is very slow and completely freezes fairly often.

Direct TV claims that it was caused by the latest download they pushed and that they are working on a fix.

Just wondering haw many other people are having the same problems? they claim that they are trying to get a patch out asap to get it fixed.

do not purchase Direct TV! Beware! seriously!

I have been a direct tv customer for more than 4 years. i had never had to deal with customer service regarding a problem until 2 months ago.

I lost service completely on one receiver and could only receive 4-5 channels on the other receiver.

The Customer service has been horrible! I have been without service for 2 months. The first time i scheduled a tech to come to my house to fix the problem, the tech never showed, never called to say my appointment was canceled.

I contacted Direct TV about this, they said the appointment was canceled but could not tell me why. So i waited another 3 weeks for a technician to show up.

This time he showed up. He replaced the satellite (fine) and he replaced the cable running from the satellite to the house (fine) but did not buried the cable (not fine!).

The tech would not run a second cable to the living room to correct the problem i was having there (he did tell me to "go to Lowers" "they have what I need to fix it").

He was hired to fix this problem, not me. So here I am, being billed for service for the last 2 months (~$90.00 per month) and i've been able to watch 4-5 channels if i'm lucky ($18.00-22.50 per channel per month) .. not a bargain by any means.

I even heard the tech tell one of his buddies that he should "tell his next client he doesn't have a dish with him" so he wouldn't have to do the installation that day so they could go home early (i think this says a lot about Direct TV customer service).

As soon as my contract is up, i have to get away from this company. Dont make the same mistake I did, STAY AWAY FROM DIRECT TV! ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN THIS!
