Bait, Switch and Don't believe the Direct TV package price

We recently came back to Direct TV with a promotion for 34.90 a month for 12 months. We were Dish customers and didn't like their system so much and missed Direct TV.
The offer made it seem like a good time to come back. Well, it has been nothing but one problem after another, beginning with installation which took 8 hours.
Next the programming was not the one we signed up for. Upon trying to get the appropriate package, we were charged a different price and every time we spoke with a customer service rep. we got a different story.
For a 34.99 a month package, our fist bill was 66.49 which we paid because apparently the rebate had not kicked in we had to apply for. We'd contact customer service (CS), explained what happened, and in the attempt to get the right package for the price offered they would switch us to a lesser channel package.
So every time we call Direct TV Customer Service the story got longer. Finally, we had the right channels. We get our second bill and it came to over $94.00.
Clearly, a lot more than 34.99 (even with the Direct TV receiver charges) which we weren’t told about.
We called Direct TV Agents again, apparently, in the process of trying to correct their mistake for giving us the package we asked for, all these charges were incurred.
It has been a nightmare that continues. If we try to cancel now, we are about to their contract which charges $20 a month for the remainder of the 18 months contract for which we still have 16 months. But, I intent to let everyone know how horrible their customer service is.
If there's any guidance you can provide I'd really appreciate it.
