Can Direct TV Do This?

I have never had anything like this happen to me in my life!! We (my husband and myself) received a call from a Direct TV representative.
They quoted an offer and a price that sounded great, thinking it sounded to good to be true we asked repeatedly for him to verify the terms and he assured us they were correct and would be good for the entire time we were a customer.
Soon our equipment was installed and we were official Direct tv customers. The day it was installed we realized we were not receiving the package promised when we called they said their was nothing they could do.
Then we received the bill and price was not what was quoted. We called again, and again we were told there was nothing they could do.
Basicly they told us what ever they had to, to get us to sign up, with no regard to whether or not it was true.
We only used their service for 15 days. In those 15 days we called at least 15 times. Finally we were told because of all our problems we could cancel and the early cancellation fee would be waived.
But this was not true. A few days later we called back and not only was our account not canceled in the notes for the call on our account said the issue had been resolved.
Now they was us to pay $500 for 15 days of service that was never correct! How can this be legal???
