Direct TV / Bait&Switch

Direct TV will tell you all kinds of things to get you to agree to their service such as offer you a low monthly price of $29 for 250 channels as well as free DVR.
They tell you they must have on file a credit card or bank account for a one time low charge for equipment or ID purposes or some other excuse.
The first bill arrives. You call customer service because that is not the amount you agreed on. Direct TV then will tells you that the package you were quoted does not exist and you must have misunderstood.
You are informed of the 2 year contract at this time. Then, you think: "Wait! The phone calls were recorded right!?"
But, Direct TV says they do not have access to the calls. Some people get angry at this point and decide to cancel service. Direct TV sometimes will or will not tell the customer there will be a hefty charge for early termination.
Some people decide to stay with them to ride out the 2 year contract they were not told about prior to this.
If you stay with them watch for those upgrades or freebies they offer because they start your contract all over again!
You decide to cancel; then you are told they will send boxes for the equipment. Most of the time before you can even return the boxes to them there is a charge made for early termination fees and non returned equipment.
You call Direct TV that you're upset! Direct TV tells you that you will get a refund but it will take 6-8 weeks to refund your money (this is enough time so you cannot dispute the amount with the credit card or bank)
So you wait.. 8 weeks come and go.. No Refund! To add insult to injury, Direct TV will often sends another bill for past taxes/movies/etc from years past.
This seems to be a fairly common practice of Direct TV. A lot of banks and credit card companies help Direct TV in taking advantage of the customer by telling the customer they cannot or will not reverse the charges even within the limited amount of time.
My credit card sent out Direct TV ads with their monthly statements, so that told me they were most likely getting kick-backs from Direct TV.
