My Direct TV System FAQs
Questions: Is that Direct TV system will be available in Canada?
Answer: Direct TV currently only provide services in United States
Questions: How can I pay my Direct TV Bills?
Answer: You may pay their bills by using electronic funds transfer (EFT) payment service that automatically deducts your DIRECTV payment from a checking account or credit card. Another payment method is by check through the mail.
Questions: Can I pay my DIRECTV bill online?
Answer: Yes. When you register with directv.com, you can manage your account online. In addition to paying your bill, you can view your current and past DIRECTV billing statements, view recent transactions and set up automatic billing plans at any time.
Questions: How does DIRECTV bill customers?
Answer: Customers are billed by DIRECTV for the programming package that they purchase, plus any Pay per View programs and sports packages you order.
DIRECTV bills in advance for most programming. Pay per View movies are automatically charged to your bill after you order them if you maintain a continuous phone connection to your receiver.
Questions: If I have more than one DIRECTV receiver, do I pay a full monthly subscription for each receiver?
Answer: No. You can connect more than one TV in a single household to DIRECTV services. If your receivers are connected to the same phone line, it's only $4.99 a month for separate programming on the second and each additional TV in your home.
The programming you request for the primary access card in your receiver is copied for all of the access cards in the other receivers and you are authorized to receive this same level of programming on these televisions.
Questions: Can DIRECTV be connected to more than one TV set in my house?
Answer: Yes. You can get separate DIRECTV receivers for the number of TV sets in your home that you want to hook up. This gives you the flexibility of watching different DIRECTV programs on different television sets.
If all of your DIRECTV receivers are connected to the same landline phone, it's only $4.99 a month for separate programming on the second and each additional TV in your home.
Questions: Will the DIRECTV receiver phone connection interfere with regular phone usage?
Answer: No. A modem inside of your receiver makes a toll-free call to the DIRECTV computer system in the middle of the night. The modem's call only lasts a few seconds and if you are using the phone, it will try again later.
Questions: Why do I need to connect my DIRECTV receiver to my phone line?
Answer: Customers need to connect their receivers to a landline phone for billing and Pay per View purposes. The connection sends purchase information from the receiver to the DIRECTV computer system.
Questions: Can I use my existing wiring for DIRECTV?
Answer: If the existing wiring in your house is RG-6 coax cable, you can use it to connect your DIRECTV receiver to your satellite dish. If your existing wiring is not RG-6 coax cable, you will need to have the installer run new wiring. Because of the frequency of the digital signals it must carry, it is important that you use RG-6 coax cable.
Questions: How can I hook up my vcr in order to record a movie from my direct tv system?
Answer: You need to hook you VCR up IN BETWEEN your direct tv receiver and your tv.....i.e. the signal need to go through your satellite box first and then your vcr and then to your tv.
Questions: I have a Direct TV satelite system and lightning has struct my dish. The reciever still works fine however, there is no signal so I am assuming the lightning fried the LNB. So I go to my local BestBuy to pick one up and they tell me that they can no longer sell LNB's, in fact, no retailer can.
Evidently Direct TV won't let anyone sell them. I looked on Ebay and they have several single LNBs for Direct TV systems for $10-$15. So I called Direct TV just to see what it would cost and they will not sell me one unless they send a service person to check it out which will be atleast $70 not even inlcuding what they would charge for the actual LNB.
So my question is if I buy one on Ebay can I simply hook it up and my satelite work again? Or do they actually have to be registered to my system like an access card? Also, out of curiosity how does Direct TV get away with this? Sounds like a monopoly to me.
Answers: Call Direct Tv and add the protection plan to your account for 4.99 a month. After they have it added to your acct ask them to schedule a service call.
Nobody says you have to KEEP the protection plan after it's fixed. And it may be more than just the LNB,could be a burnt ground block, burnt cable, bad multi-switch etc.
Questions: How to couple wires? I am moving a tv on my Direct TV system to a new room and need to lengthen the wires coming from the sat dish. How should this be accomplished?
I tried using an old coupler and a splitter to do this but without success. I have tested the set top box on a different tv and it is working. The problem must be in the coupler or in the extension wire. (which was ripped from a previous cable system)
Answers: Splitters in the LNB line are a no no. There must be a direct line between the receiver, and the LNB (out on the dish). There is +15 and +18 volts that the LNB needs to run with.
A splitter blocks that voltage, and will kill the signal. If you have a "barrel" connector, that will work. I would make certain any barrel splices are indoors, or under the house. These do not need to get wet. If it's outdoors, then replace the entire line with a single run.
Questions: How do you play video games on a direct tv receiver? I hooked my game system up through my direct tv system throught the a/v cables but there is no way to change the input on the direct tv, when i turn my tv off the game screen flashes and I can see that it is hooked up correctly but I can't figure out how to change the input on direct tv.
Answers: Use a different AV jack (like AV 2) on your TV and skip the sat box.
Questions: I need help bypassing parental control on direct tv? My sister put parental control on every channel on are direct tv system an a need help getting past it
Answers: Have the account holder call 1-800-531-5000. They will need to verify they are the account holder (spouses and people authorized to make changes are not acceptable in this case, unfortunately) and then a DirecTV CSR will be glad to reset the parental controls on the receiver.
Questions: Is it possible to connect a satellite reciever (Direct Tv) to a computer system? If so how?We have our direct tv reciever connected to our 720p tv, and in the adjacent room is our desktop computer.
We would like to browse the internet and watch tv at the same time on the same monitor, is this possible through a special video card or a monitor that supports PIP? If so what would I need?
Answers: You should be able to get a tv tuner card, that should do the trick, put it on channel set it for the proper output and your off and running.
