Direct TV Programs don't record

We had Hughes net TIVO for the longest and absolutely loved it. Then hard drive failed and we had to switch to hughes net DVR.
We had no choice. Now we frequently have shows set to record and they either don't record at all showing a conflict (when there obviously is none) or cut off after ten minutes.
This week alone we have missed three season finals. I actually was looking for the customer service number, but after reading those reviews I see no point in picking up the phone!!
Any solutions out there??
