Direct TV Receiver Enquiry

I have seen many D11 receivers (the same ones I got installed last week) on eBay.

They come with remote and card. Can I buy one and use it on my system say in our pool house if I run coax cable out there?

Will I have to call direct TV and tell them I have bought a box and they need to activate it?

The seller says it comes with card etc.

I have paid service with direct tv. Also does this also apply to a DVR?
