Direct TV Receiver setup enquiry

I moved my DirecTV receiver from downstairs to my room. I hooked everything up, but it only says "Searching for Satellite Signal". The small loading bar comes up on the bottom of the screen, but it doesn't do anything else. What did I do wrong? Is it even possible to move the receiver to a different room?
