Direct TV Scam

by Ms. Miriam
(West Palm Beach)

I am a 66 year old senior citizen who are keep trying to save money contacted Direct Tv to see if it was cheaper than my current company.

The lady that answered the call was extremely sweet and very helpful. She was explaining things to me when she mentioned a phone company that they contract with for the internet and the telephone line.

When she told me the name I told her that I would not qualify for their services because of that other company's actual debt that I had.

She told me twice that she would do all in her power to help me qualify. I told her that it was very embarrassing to me to tell her about that debt and proceeded to tell her all about the unfairness of it all and how I got taken.

When I finished she said "GOT A SURPRISE FOR YOU...YOU DO QUALIFY. WHILE YOU WERE TALKING I WAS CHECKING.

NOW I CAN SELL YOU ANYTHING YOU WANT" I was so thrilled. We went through the whole explanation of services and at the end I was going to receive my cable, internet and phone services for only $77.84 a month.

I was shocked with that price for it was $100 less than the company that I presently contracted with. It was when I asked her if I would be able to keep the same phone number that she said I would have to speak to someone else about that and switched, not before asking me for my credit card number in order to charge me a $1.00 (one dollar) fee to hold the order for my three day right of reservation.

When I spoke to the other person that's when I found out that the only thing she sold me was the TV Service. No phone, no internet.

In other words I GOT TAKEN. Needless to say I didn't continue to pursue this service and decided to stay with my present cable carrier.

But just the same, I found out that my bill was so high because they had hooked me in with a very irresistible offer that I forgot to change.

So, it is 6 of one or 1/2 dz of the other. It is us, the little guys that always gets it at the end. Is anyone out there in our government that is doing anything about it?
