They did it to us, too. We terminated our Direct TV service (because we moved), and they deducted the final bill from our checking account without advising us.
We terminated our service as of October 19th, 2008... On October 28th, they went into our checking account and withdrew $264.11! They should have had the common courtesy to tell us that they were going to withdraw it when my husband talked with them about terminating the service!
This is the 2nd time they've taken money from our account without notification! We had to dispute the banking transaction to get our money back.
Direct TV's response was that "it was in the contract that we signed with them in 2007!" Maybe it was, but business ethic-wise, they should have had the courtesy to tell us.
They told us that there would be a penalty for terminating the agreement, but they did NOT tell us that it would be deducted from our account!
