First, you no need to buy a stand alone Tivo set, just the HD Receiver itself c/w DVR features will save your TV rack space for something else. You can record 2 shows at the same time with DVR, with Tivo, you can achieve this feature but you will need to add on accessories in your Tivo set to achieve this function; and DVR come originally with this function. Preview window - You have nice preview window that show what is inside the small corner window before access into it; but you can't see what is the recorded file before open it in Tivo and you will need to open each file to find your wanted show. Filtering features - The HR20 has nice automatic filtering features for watching live TV, like "HDTV Channels", "Sports", and so one. Tivo had some of these but were not as obvious as the HR20. Setup channels - Tivo is more user friendly compare to HR20 setting; but there is one time off setting.
