If you wish to watch standard programming, you just need a standard set of Direct TV Equipment: standard receiver, standard dish, receiver remote control and the connection cables. If you wish to watch HD Programming, then you will need a set of HD Receiver, subscribe into HD Programming, HDMI cable ( usually come together with your HD Receiver ), HDTV ( LCD or Plasma TV is ok ) and a set of home theater system that give surround sound effects. If you take Direct TV HD Packages, they will upgrade your standard receiver to HD Receiver.. for free :) Of course, they just allow you to use their HD Receiver without any charges, not free the receiver to you.
