DirecTV Smart Card

Direct TV Card is an important key element of the whole Direct TV system. It is functioning by slotting it into your Direct TV Receiver, act as an CPU to decode the encrypted satellite signals into your favorite Direct TV Programming.

Each card will have one unique pin, more like security features to identify each of the Direct TV account holder, and execute your pay per view movie order, record of billing and send the information to the Central Direct TV Computer Network.

There are few version of Direct TV card had been launched by Direct TV since the technology implemented.

The first generation of card known as P1 Card, or F Card were used until 1997. This card can recognized by seeing a picture of a satellite on the front.

Second generation of card is known as P2 Card, or H cards. It were introduced in 1996 and eventually replaced P1 cards. P2 cards look the same as P1 cards and it were in use until 2002.

Third generation of DirecTV Smart Card is known as P3 Card, also known as HU cards, were introduced in 1999 and were used until April, 2004.

P3 cards have a picture of a football player on the front and its originally shipped with receivers with serial numbers above 0001 700 000. These were removed from circulation due to high piracy plaguing the system.

The 4th generation of Direct TV Card is P4 cards; which were introduced in 2002 and are currently still in use. P4 cards are labeled "Access Card: 4."

The 5th generation of card known as D1 cards. It were introduced in 2004 following compatibility problems with the P4 cards in some receivers. These cards can be identified by the silver edges, and simply bear the word "DirecTV" on the front (no number).

THe 6th generation / Latest card is known as D2/P12 cards; which were introduced in 2005. This is the current "standard issue" card.

These cards can be identified by a two-toned blue dot pattern resembling the DirecTV logo in addition to the DirecTV logo and the words "DirecTV Access Card".

This card has a picture of a satellite on the front. The period 12 card is the only card that will work with R15, H20, and HR20 series receivers.
