Enquiry on my Direct TV Remote and DVR

I have two questions. 1. How can I sync my direct TV remote to work on my tv as well so I only have to use one remote instead of 2? I have a view sonic tv. 2. I have DVR, how come it only lets me record one show at a time when before I moved it would let me tape 2 shows at once but I still had to watch one of them. Now it only lets me record one show and I cant even turn the channel..
