Enquiry on my Direct TV Setting

I am a long time customer of direct tv. However, I just bought a new 55 inch vizio lcd. My sat. box is hooked up to the tv via HDMI cable and picture works fine.

My direct tv remote i have programmed able to turn on/off the tv and adjust volume but it will not respond to channel changing, menu or any other buttons.

Why is this? i can only change the channel via the buttons on the actual sat. box. Also, why on network tv is the network symbol in the middle of the screen, or at least not tucked away in the corner like usual?
