My marriage story with Dish Network

by Jen
(Alaska)

What does Dish Network and a divorce have in common? Well, get a cup of coffee and sit down. I’ll tell you how my marriage almost ended and it’ll soon be clear how those three things are related – and you’ll learn a little secret about Dish Network along the way (this one just might save you a couple hundred dollars, so it’s pretty important, okay?).

It all started when my husband Dan finally convinced me it would be better to cancel cable and switch to a satellite TV system. So a few days later while I was paying bills, I came across the cable bill. I went ahead and paid it and while I was on their site, I also made arrangements to have it disconnected the following week. I figured that would give Dan plenty of time to scout around and find the best Dish Network deal.

The next day we woke up late and dashed out of the house to work without turning on the TV. I had to work late, and when I got home, Dan nearly tore my head off asking me WHY did I have the cable disconnected; did I not REALIZE it was Monday night and NOW how was he supposed to find the best deal and did I have ANY idea how long it would take to get a satellite system installed and on and on and on.

He even said maybe he shouldn’t be married to somebody so dumb!! (I thought that was completely uncalled for.)
I tried to explain it wasn’t supposed to be cut off until next week, I must’ve put the date in wrong or maybe the cable company misunderstood, but he would hear none of it.

He was furious and sulked around the rest of the night like a spoiled brat. I was mad that he could be so upset over something as petty as missing a stupid football game so I left and went to spend the night at my mother’s.

My folks have been Dish Network subscribers for a couple of years and why Dan didn’t just ask them where they got theirs, I have no clue. Other than the fact my husband can be downright pigheaded at times.

Anyway, I told my mom about the argument we’d had, the mean things he said and how hurt I was that he had gotten so angry with me. I told her maybe I shouldn’t be married to someone so petty.

Mom listened patiently to my ranting and then said “Relax Jen, nobody is leaving anybody. For goodness sake, you’ve only been married a couple of months. It’s a learning time for both of you. And one of the first things you need to learn is to never, ever, NEVER call a football game stupid or petty. Not where they can hear you, anyway.”

We both laughed and I began feeling better. She also told me to visit the dish network site and not only would it tell me everything I needed to know about Dish Network, I could order right then, on the same site. So I did.

I didn’t care about the endless number of channels or the fact that Dish Network has 200 hours of HD programming every day. It wasn’t important to me that they offer over 100 international channels in 25 different languages, or that they offer more pay-per-view movies, sports and special events than a person could possibly watch. None of that impressed me.

What impressed me was how hard they worked to get the fastest installation possible. (What a bonus to learn we could get up to 4 rooms installed, plus an HD receiver AND a DVR, all FREE!)

So what happened with Dan and me? I kicked his sorry butt to the curb when I found out he’d gone to an old girlfriend’s house to watch the game that night and “fell asleep watching TV.” I’m not THAT dumb!

It’s been almost two years now, and Brad and I are celebrating our 6-month anniversary this weekend. We’ve enjoyed our Dish Network so much I can’t wait to see it on the 52” plasma TV I’m giving Brad!

I’m not saying with Dish Network your life will have a fairy tale ending, but it just might…did I mention that Brad was the Dish installer guy who came to hook up service?
