Possible Causes: Your remote control isn't set to the correct mode — TV, VCR, DVD, etc. Your remote control isn't programmed to control the other devices. Your remote control was programmed, but it lost its programming. Solution: With a universal remote control, you need to first press the button on the remote that corresponds to the device you are trying to operate — TV, VCR or DVD. To program your remote control, go to your Direct TV System owner's manual and find the brand of your Direct TV System and remote control.
