As you know, Direct TV system use satellite signal to transmit its programming data. All the satellite signals will be encrypted before broadcast to satellite station.

Why? Direct TV want to prevent folks from stealing their satellite signals and watch Direct TV for free. The Direct TV Card that slot into your receiver, contain its security unique pin to decode the encrypted satellite signals and convert into your favorite Direct TV Programming.

The unique pin will be vary from each Direct TV Card in order to identify each Direct TV account holder; whenever you order pay per view movie or upgrade your Direct TV package; all billing information will be send to Direct TV Central Computer Network by using the unique security pin from each Direct TV Card.

Direct TV will have 2 kind of programming, standard programming and HD Programming. They will provide you whole set of equipment no matter which package you take. But, they are just "borrow" their equipment to you; not give it to you.

If you cancel their service in future, they will collect back all their equipment; if any of the equipment not working, you will need to pay the replacement fees to them.
