Switch Direct TV Ownership to New Address

If my friend has a direct tv receiver and he is not using and it is activated. Is it legal to hook it up at my house if i have a dish? Terrence Comment: I think it is not legal, the logic is that I believe Direct TV will not just simply allow their customers to switch their system to whoever they like..
