Terrible Direct TV Customer Service

Ever since ordering Direct TV, we have had problems with customer service. They will tell us one thing, then someone else will tell us it's not true and that basically we are at fault for it.
I have spent several hours on the phone with them to get one issue that I have been told 3 times would be taken care of, and I still can't get it taken care of.
I want to cancel because I am fed up with all of it, but I don't want to pay the early termination fee for canceling a contract early (which I didn't even know about until after signing up with Direct TV). Any suggestions?
Terrence Comment: Yup, it is a good idea not to pay for the expensive early termination fees. Please, get a written notice from Direct TV that you want to cancel the service once the contract period had end..
Why? I had just received another site visitor post that Direct TV had renew their contract without prior notice.. and the problem prolong for another 2 more years..
